Emergency school closure
These are the procedures our school will follow should the school need to close due to extreme weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Although such situations are rare, it is important that everyone is aware of the steps we will take to ensure an efficient and safe response.
If a decision is made to close the school, we will take the following actions as soon as possible:
1. All families will be sent a message via Arbor.
2. We will notify local radio stations where possible. Please listen to:
– Greatest Hits Radio on 97.2 FM
– BBC Radio York on 104.3 FM or 103.7 FM
3. We will notify North Yorkshire Council to update their website regarding the school’s status.
Where possible, please avoid phoning the school unless absolutely necessary, as we need to keep the phone line clear so staff can carry out the steps above quickly.
Safety Advice
- Do not travel to school if you feel the roads are unsafe.
- If school opens but weather conditions worsen during the day, we may need to close early. In this case, you will be notified via an Arbor message and asked to collect your child/children immediately.
- If you are a working parent, please ensure that someone known to the school is available to collect your child/children if you are unable to do so yourself.
- If poor weather is forecast and you will be unable to arrange collection before the end of the school day, please keep your child/children at home. This absence will be authorised for safety reasons.
Please also bear in mind that although local conditions may allow some pupils to reach school, many staff travel longer distances and may be unable to do so safely. In such cases, if we do not have enough staff to supervise pupils safely, the school may have to close.
