Key Stage 2
Some of the activities that pupils in KS2 take part in are the same as EYFS and KS1, while other enrichment activities are special to KS2.
We also have Open Parent sessions so parents can join in with the learning that is happening at school. We also celebrate special days with the whole school – Red Nose Day, Children in Need, Jeans for Genes day, Christmas Jumper day which is linked to our Christmas dinner in school. We wear yellow for Mental Health day and do different activities to celebrate World Book Day, including a book fair.We follow the celebrations of our country by having a Christmas Carol Service in the local church and Easter competitions with in school. Members of school also take part in the Remembrance Service held in the local church and at the War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday.
If you enjoy singing you can be part of our Young Voices Choir and take part in the concert in Sheffield Arena, you can also sing in our local community – at the Late-Night shopping even in town and at local care homes and for local groups. If you enjoy dancing FOBS organise discos during the year as well as a Colour Run – messy and colourful.
If you are sporty you can take part in a local swimming gala, or a triathlon, after swimming lessons which take place in year 4. We encourage pupils to be safe on their bike by organising Bikeability which means you could confidently be part of a local bike ride which is organised by the Boroughbridge Lions. The Lions also organised the ROAR project which our Year 6 pupils take part in – they created a product and put it forward as a business proposition.
As you get to upper KS2 you can take on a responsibility with in school – you could be a Play Leader, helping both on the KS1/ EYFS playgrounds at lunch time, you may want to be a librarian in our school library, help in the dinner hall at lunchtime or you could be a Well-being Warrior helping other children in school.
We have opportunities to liaise and work with other local school, we have been to Queen Mary’s near Thirsk as well as visiting our local High School to take part in lessons with their teachers in their specialised classrooms.
All year groups take part in visits to inspire their learning – we have visits to Jorvik, Aldborough and a local Vineyard, we use the local area for a lot of visits, visiting the church, walking down the river and looking at land use. Year 6 visit London for the day, they go inside the Houses of Parliament and walk around Westminster. As part of our responsibility to ensure our pupils are ready for High School we organise Crucial Crew – we arrange different organisations to speak to Year 6 to encourage them to be safe as they have more freedom away from their parents.
We are proud of the residential opportunities that KS 2 pupils have, Year 4 have a sleep over in school while Year 5 go to Fanwood for 2 nights. Year 6 go to East Barnby for their adventure where they take part in a range of activities and enjoy spending time together before their move to High School.
